Earlier this year, during my brief (unexpected, almost blessed) stint of unemployment, I was on the way to the zoo with a long-time friend of mine. He told me that he had been trying and failing to describe me to a friend because I do so very many things: I am a novelist, struggling to publish my first book; a photographer who does three different kinds of portraits, plus landscapes; a Classicist and historian by education; a jeweler by trade, working at a locally owned store in the KC Metro; the Chair of the Sacred Experience Committee for the Heartland Spiritual Alliance, and a member of their Board of Directors. And yet I still find (some) time to sleep and (less) time for friends. But with all that going on, I spend a lot of time wondering about the division and presentation of my various art, literature, professional, and personal projects.
This week, though, while at the day job, I had an epiphany. I've been sitting on the solution for years, wasting it on a throwaway line - a sight gag on my personal calling cards.
Author * Artist
Sorcerer * Madman
Four words that describe everything that I do. Four words that cover about 3/5 of what I AM.
Now, I still haven't figured out how to put all those things on a single platform. But I have the solution to some of it here, where I sell some of the art. And, depending on how I like the blog here on zenfolio, it may cover "madman" as well: I might either generate content here or just cross-post and archive it. If the zenfolio account came with an email address, that would be better still.
